CSKX introduced children into the monthly get-togethers of older community members and young professionals hosted by North London Cares (NLC) at Kentish Town Community Centre. The children explained and managed the Sense&Memory project, which encouraged all participants to use a range of art materials in creative responses to sensory explorations.
NLC activities foster dialogue and interaction across generations. The Sense&Memory project offered unusual points of discussion and promoted sharing, creativity, and collaborative engagement, particularly by involving children. For many of the participants, workshops and creative engagement are unusual experiences; this project gave them an opportunity to try things out and join in - all within fun, friendly and discussion-based get-togethers.
CSKX and NLC are currently considering ways in which this project could be used and developed as part of NLC's Love Your Neighbour project, which aims to reach community members who have limited mobility and difficulty accessing social activities.
This series of 5 workshops was a collaboration between North London Cares and CSKX.
With many thanks to the Andy, Kirsty and Laura at North London Cares.
